A national organization of female accountants in America that aims to further the interests of women in the accounting profession. The American Society of Women Accountants (ASWA) is comprised chiefly of women Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) and accountants who work for corporations, many of whom occupy positions in middle management.
The ASWA publishes The Woman CPA, a periodical that addresses many aspects of the accounting profession. This publication covers such topics as informational systems, professional education, financial accounting and audits. The ASWA was originally formed in 1938 in Indianapolis, Ind.
